Brushes Units - UST

STANDARD BRUSHING UNIT WITH ROD
REGULATION UST TYPE

This type of unit is used for big belts in particular working conditions as the conveying of wet and doughy material and slugs. Standard Ø 300 mm. On demand Ø 270÷350

BRUSHING UNITS FOR CONVEYOR BELT
Belts transporting any kind of material require frequent maintenance as slugs and residues, when not removed after unloading, may accumulate in the pulleys and on the rollers’ return causing wear and tear and damage to the belts. The Brushing Units for Conveyor Belts, projected and manufactured by  S.I.T. in order to obtain a radical belts’ cleanliness and prevent the clogging that takes place with the traditional type of cleaner, have assembled as brushing gear a special cylindrical shaped brush with helical segments (strip) (see fitting shape on page 74 - master rolls).
The Brushing Units consist of a modular frame on which both brushand engine are mounted. The frame is fitted to the whole conveyor belt’s structure by tighten means of bolts. Usually, the mounted engines are asynchronous three-phased engine, 3 PH 220-380 V. Tension, 50Hz, closed construction, external ventilation and rotor. Protection IP44.
B5 construction forms for UST type and B3 for USLT. The brush is set in action by an electrical  engine along with a driving belt (USLT) or a geared-engine (with helical coaxial gears) with elastic joints (UST).
The brush pressure regulation can be adjusted by the lateral eye pulling rods. The body of the brush consists of a steel shaft carrying turned cast iron disks, on which the “Strip” brushes are fixed by aluminum dowels screwed around them.
There are two standard types of Brushing Units:
- UST type: a Standard brushing unit
- USLT type: a brushing unit (light type)
On demand, S.I.T. is pleased to supply special Brushing Units (type US)
along with either dimensions or electrical specifics properly required by the customer. The Brushing Units must be mounted parallel with the conveyor belt (pls. see picture), where the belt leaves the head-drum
or immediately behind the vertical of the drum axle. During this phase, the supports’ alignment must be done carefully. If the Brushing Units are mounted in any other positions, an idle roll must be located against the other side of the belt. In this way, the brush will work where the belt is tight. The power supply must be provided as to start and stop both brush and conveyor belt at the same time. It is recommended to bear in mind that the wires’ tips are constantly under working stress, therefore an excessive pressure may reduce the brushing performance of the whole unit and may accelerate the wire’s wear-out. The picture “A” shows the adequate and suggested bending stress and pressure between the brush and its tape. For adjusting the pressure it is sufficient to operate upon both side tension rods: this advised operation will reduce the strip’s wear-out and keep cleaning for the conveyor belt high. The strip brushes’ replacement is very simple and it is not necessary to disassemble the metal body. It will be sufficient to screw-out the wedges held by a set of screws, then to pull the brushes out either side ways or radial ways, when it is possible. The max. rotating speed must be selected in compliance with both the conveyor belt’s speed and the nature of the material to be carried out. The Brush’s and conveyor belt’s senses of rotation must be opposite. When Brushing Units’ offers are required it is advised to determine and define the following  parameters:
- Type of the Brushing Unit – conveyor belt’s width
- Dimension “X” (the foot support’s interaxis tied up to the conveyor)
- Rotating speed of the brush (see attached chart)
- Technical characteristics of the electrical engine
- Type and nature of the material to be carried out and speed in m./sec.
- Example: a Brushing Unit type UST 700/900 x 388 rounds (i.e. an UST type 700, “X”=900 mm., rotating speed=388 round/min.), electrical three-phased engine 220-380 V., 50 Hz.
The hypothesis expects the conveyor to carry carbon particles at 2m./sec. Speed. All the Brushing Units supplied by S.I.T. comply with the machinery coarse 89/392/EEC. Every Brushing Unit will be supplied and provided with an helpful and practical Handbook, the Test certificate and the “Incorporation’s declaration”.
Every Brushing Unit may be supplied along with joint protection properly fitted on the UST as flexible coupling; on the USLT for protecting the belt cone pulley.

BRUSHING UNIT LIGHT TYPE WITH ROD REGULATION USLT TYPE
Suggested for small conveyor belts for light working conditions and used when the  installations are tricky.
Standard  Ø 200. On demand Ø 180÷260

Dis. 12

The  above - mentioned dimensions are referred to engines as specified for standard brushing units.
Fixing supports of the brushing unit to the conveyor belt can be mounted in any position in the range of 180°.
The angle described by the brush from its installation up to its replacement.

Here attached, you will find a diagram showing how to choose the correct speed when using a 300 mm external diameter brush, in the respect of the dragged material.
In abscissa: speed of the conveyor belt m./sec.
In ordinate: round/min. of the brush.
In order to determine the speed reducer, it is suggested to round the speed reading off up to the closest reading available in  the  market.
